Thomas Herbert Moore, age 83, passed away on February 6, 2026, surrounded by family. Tom will be remembered for his sincere kindness, his deep love for his family, and for his beloved Bernese Mountain Dog, Noble, who was always by his side.
Tom was born in 1942 to Emily (“Babe”) and Tom (“Chub”) Moore in Port Alberni. He enjoyed growing up in various remote areas of Vancouver Island, where he worked alongside his brothers, Pete and Bill (both predeceased), in the family fernery business. Tom later attended the University of Victoria, where he was well known for his athletic ability and was awarded the highest athletic award, the Big Block, in 1965.
In 1978, Tom moved to the Comox Valley with his family and became the proprietor of Glacier Lanes, which he ran for many years. He cherished the bowling community that became such an important part of his life. Tom played with the Comox Valley Merchants Masters Fastball team and proudly went to the Western Canadian Championships in 1988. Tom also enjoyed playing with the Courtenay Oldtimers soccer team and coached numerous sports teams throughout his children’s school years. He served a time as Treasurer and President of the Courtenay Rotary Club and was involved in many Rotary projects.
Passionate about gardening, Tom was an accomplished gardener and took great pride in tending his beautiful garden. In his younger years, he especially enjoyed spending time on his beloved fishing boat with his family. Most recently, Tom was working to help establish the Comox Valley Sports Hall of Fame Society with the goal of a sports memorial to be displayed at the Comox Valley Sports Centre.
Tom was married to his wife, Marj, for 57 years. Together they raised three children: Tom (predeceased), Tracey (Brian), and Jeff. He was a proud and loving grandfather to Allaina, Kiara, Tommy Jr., Jordan, and Angeleena.
Tom’s kindness touched many lives, and he will be deeply missed. A memorial service will be announced at a later date. The family would like to sincerely thank the compassionate ICU nurses and doctors who cared for Tom at North Island Hospital.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests that donations by cheque be made in Tom’s memory to the Comox Valley Sports Hall of Fame Society which can be contacted via Mr. Bill Green at 250-702-5071.
