Jamie Hobbs

A very observant man who would rather spend his time creating than talking, Jamie preferred to live in a world of harmony where everything around him made sense. In fact, he depended on his sensory world to provide him with concrete data. A free spirit, Jamie believed that actions definitely spoke for themselves. He seemed to know what fit and what didn’t fit in everything he did. Jamie perceived that all of life’s possibilities were open to him, yet he lived with a definite sense of purpose. He was a man who was always ready to share his creations with those around him.

His parents were Danny and Mary Hobbs. Jamie was raised in Little Burnt Bay, Newfoundland. As a young child, Jamie was optimistic in his outlook. He sought out the possibilities in a given situation and looked for ways to apply his creative energies. Jamie rarely calling attention to himself, but when he did speak out, his message was clearly understood by those around him. Early on in his family relationships, Jamie showed that he was a tolerant and flexible person, and he got along fairly well with everyone. He was raised with one sibling. He had a sister named Shelly. He was a calm and playful child who was adaptable to any situation.

As he was growing up, Jamie developed into a person who enjoyed physically doing things, and he took pleasure in using his hands in order to create. Whether it was playing guitar, working with building kits, or even just tapping out a rhythm to play by, Jamie liked concrete things. In his spare time he liked being in the woods. However, to Jamie, the most fun he had was simply playing, and spending time with friends.

Early on in his school years, Jamie showed an interest in learning, especially when it came to subjects in the arts. At times, school learning did not provide Jamie with sufficient challenges, but being an avid reader, he could often be “lost in a book” well above his grade. His passion for fine arts was so keen that fellow students and even his teachers recognized it. He graduated from Lewisporte Collegiate in 2001. He enjoyed some courses more than others, having favorite classes and teachers.

Those who didn’t know Jamie well might not view him as being an outgoing person, those who called him their friend knew differently. Jamie was shy and sensitive, a person who never forced his opinions and values on others. Close friends knew that his kindness was unmatched, and once you became a friend of Jamie’s, you understood how true a friend he could be. Some of Jamie's friends included Jamie Harding and Nathalie Pinet, Kelsey Davis, Willis and Linda Hiscock.

A person who was sensitive to others’ feelings, modest and tolerant, Jamie had the ability to become completely devoted to another when that affection was returned. On September 20, 2013, Jamie exchanged wedding vows with his life partner Tiffany Mortimer at St. Matthew's Anglican Church in Oshawa, Ontario. Jamie found ways to enjoy what he did for a living.

He worked hard and did his best to succeed every day. His primary occupation was Cabinetmaker. He was employed for 7 years at Interior Woodcraft Designs. Jamie tended to be a team player, doing what was necessary in order to get the job done without imposing his will on others. He was in the Royal Canadian Dragoons - Armoured Infantry. Through his hard work and dedication, he achieved the rank of Private. Jamie’s fellow soldiers saw him as a brother in arms and knew that he was as much a part of their family.

Jamie enjoyed his leisure time by taking part in various hobbies. His favorite pursuits were being outdoors, hunting, camping, singing and spending time with family and friends. Jamie was content to enjoy his hobbies alone but was also willing to share his interests with others. He was relaxed in his approach to his leisure time because he wanted to savor the present moment. Jamie liked sports. Recreational sports included golf and hunting. Jamie was also something of a sports fan and enjoyed following his favorite events whenever he got the opportunity.

Because he loved the world around him, Jamie enjoyed traveling and going away on vacations. It was an opportunity for him to kick back and relax, to visit new places and experience new things. Jamie put his personal trademark on any leisure planning that he undertook. Favorite vacations included his honeymoon in Dominican Republic and many trips home to Newfoundland.

Jamie was a lover of animals and cherished his pets. One of Jamie’s favorites was Aero,a Black cat. They were best friends for 7 years. His family was rounded out by his two cats Twix and Bounty and a loving dog Rogue.

Jamie passed away on November 16, 2019 at Lakeridge Health - Oshawa. Jamie fought a courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife Tiffany, his mother Mary, his sister Shelly (Dwayne), nieces Leigha and Katie, his nephew Callum, his brother-in-law Robin (Solange) and mother and father-in-law April and Steve.

Jamie was a good man, a kind man, and a practical man who will for all time be remembered by his family and friends as being warm and deeply caring. He leaves behind him a treasury of life-long friendships and wonderful memories. Jamie always had much to give and was able to make those connections in his life where his gifts were appreciated. Jamie was a faithful, practical and loving

person.

Jamie died peacefully at the age of 36 on Saturday November 16, 2019 after a courageous battle with cancer. Beloved husband of Tiffany. Predeceased by his father Danny, survived by his mother Mary. Brother of Shelly (Dwayne). Devoted uncle of Leigha, Katie, and Callum. Brother in law of Robin (Solange). Son in law of Steven and April Mortimer. Jamie will be sadly missed by his extended family and many friends. Visitation will be held at COURTICE FUNERAL CHAPEL, 1587 Highway #2, Courtice (905-432-8484) on Wednesday November 20, 2019 from 2 – 4p.m & 6 – 8 p.m. Donations in memory of Jamie can be made to Princess Margaret Hospital.
