It is with deep love and sadness that we announce the passing of Lorna Jean Caverly (née Sudds), who passed away peacefully on April 17, 2026, at the age of 93, surrounded by family in palliative care at Bowmanville Hospital.
Lorna was born on May 28, 1932, in Bowmanville, Ontario, where she built a life defined by dedication, service, and quiet strength. She carried herself with a steady presence that grounded those around her and left a lasting impression on all who knew her. Lorna worked as a swimming instructor for many years and later spent over 20 years as a teller at CIBC before dedicating 27 years as a bookkeeper at Glen Hill Strathaven. Her commitment to caring for others extended far beyond her work. Lorna was a devoted volunteer with the Red Cross for three decades, where she was recognized with a Volunteer Distinction Award, reflecting her lifelong generosity and compassion.
Lorna was predeceased by her parents, Richard Aubrey Sudds of Kent, England, and Ada Lydia Sudds (née Jackman) of Bowmanville; her beloved husband, John Douglas Caverly; and her sister, Beverley Joan Wiggins (née Sudds).
She is lovingly remembered by her children: Linda Jean Matthews (née Caverly, formerly Allin)(Ron); Mark Richard Caverly (Diane); and Gail Charlotte Yeomans (née Caverly)(Ken).
She will be deeply missed by her grandchildren: Darren Allin; Carissa Gibson (née Allin); Christina Gutteridge (née Caverly); Holly Benjamin (née Caverly); Evan Caverly; Lisa Mae Buchanan (née Yeomans); and Laura Moore (née Yeomans), partner of Matthew Tims. Each held a special place in her heart.
Lorna was also a proud great-grandmother to 12 wonderful great-grandchildren, offering them the same steady and unwavering love that defined her life.
She lived with quiet resilience, unwavering dedication, and a deep love for her family, serving as a constant and supportive presence through every season of life. She found joy in life’s simplest moments, whether it was an Ice Cap, a heartfelt “wow,” time spent with dogs, or sharing ice cream and cookies with those she loved. Her legacy lives on not only in the life she lived but in the generations she shaped, supported, and loved so deeply.
Visitation will be held at Courtice Funeral Chapel, 1587 Highway #2, Courtice, ON, L1E 2R7, on Friday, April 24, 2026, at 12:30 PM. A Funeral Service will follow at the same location on Friday, April 24, 2026, at 1:30 PM, with a reception to follow on-site. Following the service, family and friends are invited to gather for dinner at Swiss Chalet, Bowmanville at 5:00 PM.
Flowers are gratefully accepted. For those who wish, donations may be made to the Humane Society of Durham Region in Lorna’s memory.
She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always.
