

Arthur William Seymour was a modest man, quiet and observant in his ways. He was trustworthy and traditional in his approach to his life and in his relationships. He was tough-minded with the kind of “stick to it” attitude that earned the respect of all who knew him. He was also a man who was meticulous, carefully disciplined, and orderly in virtually everything he undertook. Realistic about life, he was always at the ready, prepared to take on responsibility.
Arthur was born on June 2, 1929 in Lansing, Michigan. He was the son of Earl and Mildred Seymour. Arthur grew up in Kalamazoo, Michigan.
Arthur was raised with four siblings. He had Betty, Jane Ellen, Helen and Willie. Arthur was usually involved in all sorts of activities with his siblings. He and his siblings experienced rivalries typical of a growing family, but they shared many life experiences over the years.
A typical teenager, Arthur had a fairly happy high school experience, making that critical transition from adolescence to adulthood. He graduated from Resurrection High School in 1948. He enjoyed some classes more than others, having favorite subjects and teachers.
On January 14, 1961 Arthur wed his first wife, Fionuala Flahive. On November 18, 1978 Arthur exchanged wedding vows with Gloria Lang at Chapel of Roses of Pasadena, California. Empathic and loyal, Arthur was committed to making his new family happy.
Arthur worked hard to be a good father to his children and he did his best to fulfill their needs. Arthur was blessed with four children, three sons, Michael, Matthew and Mark, and one daughter, Michelle. He also had three step-sons, Mark, Michael and Matt. Another blessing for Arthur was the gift of sixteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, Brandon, Adam, Vonna, Donald, Amanda, Nathaniel, Mitchell, Johnny, David, Andrew, Damon, Nikki, Brittany, Bailey, Patti and Kaitlyn and five great-grandchildren Adam, Riley, AnaLisa, J.T., Zayley.
Fortunately, Arthur enjoyed what he did for a living. Showing a strong work ethic, Arthur worked diligently and did his best to succeed in his career. His primary occupation was Postal Carrier. He was employed for 30 plus years by the United States Postal Service. Arthur always sought to be a team player, doing what was necessary in order to get the job done.
Arthur was a Navy veteran. He was in the US Training Center in Great Lakes, Michigan. Arthur served during the Korean Conflict but never saw action. Through his hard work, he achieved the rank of Machinist's Mate L Third Class, USNR-R. He received several awards recognizing him for his service, including a National Defense Service Medal, Navy Occupation Service Medal with European Clasp. His fellow soldiers viewed him as a brother in arms and knew that he was as much a part of their family as their loved ones back home.
Arthur found pleasure in sports. In high school, Arthur played baseball. Recreational sports included bowling and camping. Arthur was also something of a sports fan and enjoyed following his favorite events whenever he had the chance to do so. Tops on his list were college baseball and football.
Arthur’s faith was important to him. He was a member of Resurrection Catholic Church.
Arthur was a lover of animals and cherished his pets. One of his favorites was King, a Samoan dog. His family was rounded out by his dog, Bear.
When Arthur’s retirement finally arrived in January 2, 1987, he was well prepared. Even in retirement, Arthur continued to stay in touch with his old friends while making plenty of new acquaintances. Arthur was active in his new community and felt fulfilled with the opportunities retirement offered him.
Arthur passed away on July 23, 2010 at home in San Gabriel, California. He is survived by his children Michael, Michelle, Mathew and Mark, his step-children Matt, Michael and Mark and his grandchildren. Services were held at Custer Christiansen Chapel in Covina, California.
Simply stated, Arthur was a good and kind person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by his family and friends as being a caring and giving person, someone who was a vital part of their lives. Arthur leaves behind him a legacy of life-long friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life he touched will always remember Arthur William Seymour.
