Eugene John “Gene” Hoffman IV, 53, passed away surrounded by the love of his family. A devoted husband, father, and man of faith, Gene lived a life rooted in service, generosity, and community.
Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, Gene carried his love for his hometown throughout his life. He was a proud graduate of Jesuit High School in New Orleans, Louisiana State University, and LSU Law School, remaining a lifelong supporter of LSU athletics and an avid fan of the New Orleans Saints.
Gene built a respected career as a title attorney, but his talents and passions extended far beyond his profession. With an entrepreneurial spirit, he embraced many roles throughout his life, always driven by a desire to grow, serve, and make a difference.
In 2003, Gene and his beloved wife of 27 years, Edie Hoffman, moved to Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, where they quickly fell in love with the community. Gene became deeply involved, dedicating countless hours to improving the lives of those around him. He served as a coach, city councilman, and is a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus. He also contributed his time and leadership to several boards supporting child advocacy efforts. Known for his generosity, Gene was always willing to lend a helping hand, offering his time, guidance, and kindness to anyone in need.
A faithful member of Our Lady of the Gulf Catholic Church, Gene’s strong relationship with God guided his life and actions. His faith was evident in the way he served others and cared for his family.
Above all, Gene was a family man. He cherished every moment spent with his wife and children, whether at home, on the water fishing, or enjoying the beach. He was a proud father to his son, Eugene Hoffman V (23), and daughter, Julia Katherine Hoffman (19), and his love for them was unwavering.
Gene will be remembered through all the lives he touched coaching youth sports in the community, as well as for his big heart, his dedication to serving others, and the lasting impact he made on everyone who knew him. He was a great friend to many and loved to have a good time, bringing joy and laughter wherever he went. His legacy of faith, service, and love will continue to live on through his family and the many lives he touched.
He is survived by his wife, Edie Hoffman; his children, Eugene Hoffman V and Julia Katherine Hoffman; his parents, Eugene Hoffman III and Kathy Hoffman; his sisters, Kristen Porter (Monroe), Karynne Richerand (Frank), and Erika St. Pierre (Greg); as well as several beloved nieces and his nephews; his cousins; and countless friends, colleagues, and community members who were blessed to know him.
