Fredrick "Neil" Gauthier

24 septiembre, 1956 – 27 febrero, 2026
Obituario de Fredrick "Neil" Gauthier
EN EL CUIDADO DE

Grace Funeral Home & St. Lazarus of Bethany Memorial Garden

Fredrick “Neil” Gauthier passed away peacefully surrounded by family on February 27, 2026.

He was born on September 24, 1956, in Crowley, Louisiana, and was a resident of Iota, Louisiana for 40 years. Neil was born with Down Syndrome, and when he was four years old, his parents recognized he would benefit from specialized schooling to help him reach his fullest potential. At that time, there were no facilities in Acadia Parish or the surrounding areas able to provide those services. The result of his parents’ determination and perseverance was 100 acres of land donated by two local Iota residents and legislation that paved the way to build Southwest State School, a commuter school for children and adults with special needs. Neil became the school’s first enrolled student at age 10. He loved playing on the school’s volleyball team and proudly participated in the Special Olympics for several years. He attended Southwest State School until age 40, when he moved to Covington, Louisiana to live with his sister, Totsy Brownson, her husband, Ken, along with their daughter Kristin, who gave him a life of laughter, purpose, and love.

Neil was preceded in death by his parents, Florence and C.J. Gauthier; his sister, Barbara King (Phil); his brothers, Patrick and Wendell Gauthier; and his niece, Michelle Gauthier. He is survived by his sister, Totsy Brownson (Ken); his sisters-in-law, Anne and Penny Gauthier; nine nieces and nephews; eleven great-nieces and great-nephews; and one great-great-niece.

Neil had a special gift for leaving a smile on everyone’s face and lighting up every room he entered. For nearly 70 years, he touched countless lives, and anyone who knew him couldn’t help but love him. He adored his family and extended family, celebrating birthdays and attending any gathering or “party time,” as he liked to call them. A devoted LSU and Saints fan, Neil also cherished going to work each day at St. Tammany Linen, Inc., where he was part of a beloved work family for 29 years.

He will be forever remembered for the joy, laughter, and unconditional love he shared with all of us.

A gathering to honor and celebrate Neil will be held just the way he would have wanted — with smiles, stories, and time together. As he always said, it’s “Party Time” and the party to celebrate Neil will be held on Sunday, April 12, 2026, from 1:00 pm until 4:00 pm at St. Tammany Linen, Inc., 3900 Florida St, Mandeville, LA 70448. A Toast and an opportunity for a few guests to share stories and memories will take place at 2:30 pm.

All attendees are encouraged to wear your favorite LSU or Saints gear.

To help us honor Neil’s beautiful life, we welcome any favorite photos or videos you’d like to share.
