Jimmy is survived by his loving mother Kris Barthel. He is also survived by his aunt Rolande Venet (Patrick), his uncle Alain Barthel (Marie-Annick), as well as his cousins Sebastian Venet and Gregory and Cyril Barthel; and his life-long friend Michael “Mike” Hemphill.
Jimmy is preceded in death by his father John W. Rathbun and his maternal grandparents.
Jimmy became wheelchair bound at the age of 19. Prior to, he enjoyed biking, swimming, martial arts, painting and drawing. He loved music and watching Bob Ross. Throughout his many challenges, he was always smiling and happy; he had wonderful zest for life. Jimmy’s mother Kris lovingly called him her “happy warrior”. He was an inspiration to many.
Jimmy’s family would like to express their sincere gratitude to his devoted and loving caregivers, whom Jimmy adored and were a part of his family for many years.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the funeral services at Grace Funeral Home, 450 Holy Trinity Drive, Covington, LA 70433 on Saturday, January 14, 2023 at 12:00 PM with visitation on Saturday beginning at 10:30 AM.
