OBITUARIO

Luther "Rudy" Rudolph Odom Jr.

25 junio , 195619 julio , 2020

Luther Rudolph Odom Jr, more commonly known as ‘Rudy’, left his earthly body to be with God July 19, 2020.

He was born June 25, 1956 in Tylertown, Mississippi to Luther Rudolph Odom Sr. and Joyce Raye Rushing Odom. He met his wife and soulmate of 44 years, Cecelia, at Southwest Mississippi Junior College and they married the end of that school year. He was a brilliant Petroleum Engineer who quickly climbed the corporate ladder landing their family in New Orleans, and later Mandeville. They had two children and three grandchildren. His happiness in life was his family, especially the grandbabies. ‘Grampies’ was always ready to wrestle and teach them a thing or two about life. As His family and friends reflect back on his life, they know a generous, loving and tough man, who was loved by those around him. Those closest to him admired his caring nature, humanity, and how he knew what you needed before you did and made sure to make it happen. There was absolutely nothing he wouldn’t do for any of them.

He is survived by his wife, Cecelia Ogden Odom; his children, Ashley Odom Rabalais and her husband Blaine Rabalais and Luther ‘Rudy’ Rudolph Odom III; his grandchildren Tyce and Ainsley Rabalais, and Luther ‘Rudy’ Rudolph Odom IV; his brother and sisters Ron And Pell Wheless, James Ogden Jr, John and Sally Ogden, Mike and Dianne Melton, James and Susanne Core; and a plethora of nephews, nieces, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and more who adored him.

He was preceded in death by his parents Luther Rudolph Odom Sr. and Joyce Raye Rushing Odom; his brother Anthony Blaine Odom; his in-laws James and Claire Ogden; and his sister-in-laws Emalyn ‘Janie’ Elizabeth Ogden and Sandra Lee Ogden.

Rudy was the VERY first Chevron “company man” that I went to work with when I came over in the Gulf Oil merger as a brand new drill rep (Bokenkamp II on South Pass 78B). He was a great teacher and a fine man! RIP!

Cecelia, Ashley & Lil Rudy, I am so sorry for your loss of Rudy and I pray for God’s hand of grace and mercy to comfort you all during this most difficult time. I’m so thankful and blessed that God placed me where he did to be able to work for such a great, caring and tremendous man. He loved his family and made me feel as if I were a part of it, which being from Tylertown was a plus for me. He was not only my boss but a most cherished and dear friend who I will miss everyday. If you knew Rudy you couldn’t help but love him as he relayed the same love and concern for those in his life. A tremendous man!

God bless you all and give you strength. Mark

I have known Rudy since he first started working at Chevron and enjoyed every time I saw and worked with him. He was always a pleasure to be around. Full of life, always generous, and dedicated to his family, work, and friends. I know we all already, and will always, miss him terribly.

If there is a God and Heaven, which I believe there is, Rudy is there and we will see him again.

Rudy was a true petroleum engineer who had a vision to go out on his on and gain much success as a few others because of his knowledge/experience. Not many of us that came from a major oil company did that, but a few of us did. His key efforts was to surround himself around good people, treat them right, never make them do what you would not do yourself and they would respect him and his clients. And that he did and was very successful at it. We engineered a lot of key projects together for clients and were always successful, Rudy would not have had it any other way. My sincere condolences to the family and if God needs oil and gas we all will be drilling for him up in Heaven some day. God Bless Rudy's family and friends.
