
Samuel G. Sproles of Huntsville, AL died on Tuesday morning, April 28, 2020. He was 83 years old. A native Texan and 1960 engineering graduate of the University of Texas, he was employed in missile research and development in California by Aerojet, before moving to Huntsville in 1964. Mr. Sproles’ career included employment with several local companies, PRC, Northrop, and Rockwell. Mr. Sproles was a senior engineer with the Boeing Company in Huntsville for more than 25 years before retiring in 1995. He was presented several awards for his accomplishments with the Apollo, Lunar Rover, Space Shuttle, and Space Station programs and various other aerospace projects that he was a part of over the years. The congregations of Epworth United Methodist and Southside Baptist Church were dear to his heart. Sam was preceded in death by his father, Samuel H. Sproles, Jr.; his mother, Gladys Galloway Bryant; and his brother-in-law Neil Van Geem and wife Mary of Fort Worth, TX. Survivors include his beloved wife of 60 years, Frances Ellen Sproles; three sons, Scott and spouse Tom of Rancho Mirage, CA, Brian and wife Melissa of Mandeville, LA, and Mark and wife Bridget of Arlington, VA; and a sister, Barbara Hessler of Hesperia, CA; brother-in-law Henry Van Geem and wife Peggy of Wichita Falls, TX; and grandchildren, Ashley, Allison, Austin, Kiersten, and Lauren Sproles and many nephews, nieces, and cousins.
