William "Billy" Avery Fitzmorris

William “Billy” Avery Fitzmorris Jr., 67 of Covington, passed away on April 22, 2026, at St. Tammany Parish Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 14, 1958, in Franklinton, LA to the late William Avery Fitzmorris Sr. and Altha Mae Chatellier. He is preceded in death by his parents.

Billy was born in Franklinton and grew up in Madisonville. After graduation, he joined the United States Army and was based at Fort Stewart, GA. Billy then returned to the Northshore and worked in construction, and as a deckhand on tugboats in the Mississippi River. He also worked for Casadaban’s Nursery in Covington for many years. He finished his career with the Louisiana Office of State Parks before his retirement. Billy was a member and a former President of the Covington Lions Club. He was very active in the community and very much enjoyed all of his activities while being involved in the Lions Club.

He loved being outdoors and was always doing something, from tinkering on projects to building or fixing something. Billy was compassionate about lending a helping hand to family, friends and strangers alike. Billy met Elizabeth “Betty” Clement 16 years ago and have been together as loving soul mates ever since. He was a devoted family member and friend to so many, and his legacy will live on in all that knew him.

Billy is survived by his loving companion of 16 years Betty; siblings, Ricky Fitzmorris, Ronnie Fitzmorris, Cheryl F. Bourgeois, Paul Fitzmorris, and Christine S. Catchot. Billy also leaves behind to cherish his memory a host of nieces, nephews, friends, extended family and his beloved pet Coco Chanel.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at the Grace Funeral Home (450 Holy Trinity Drive, Covington). A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 pm on May 6, 2026, at the Grace Funeral Home (450 Holy Trinity Drive, Covington). Graveside Services with Military Honors will follow at the Southeast Louisiana Veterans Cemetery in Slidell.
