Gary K. Henderson went home to his Heavenly Father July 26, 2023 at the age of 66. Born August 8, 1956, to Howard and Agnes (Minn) Henderson. Gary was a lifelong resident of Craig, Colorado who truly loved the natural wonders and wildlife of the surrounding area. He was devoted to his career of 48 years with Tri-State Generations and Transmission as a training coordinator. He proudly taught the complex process of running the coal-fired power plant to countless people over the years and by the time of his retirement earlier this spring, had trained every operator currently employed at the Craig station as well as numerous others from different locations. He was an avid reader favoring spy fiction, science fiction, westerns, and most of all his Bible. He was also a talented artist, leaving behind sketchbooks filled with people and scenes but mostly nature. Gary was dedicated to sharing his faith with others and for many years led the local jail ministry. He had a passion for martial arts and devoted his efforts over decades to teaching karate to his many students. He always said, “I’ll know I’m old when I can’t do the splits anymore.” Gary loved being a dad. When his children were young, he made sure that each child got quality time with him by having ‘Daddy Day’ every Saturday when he would take one kid in turn for an outing. He taught his children how to love, shoot, fight, work and live. He is remembered as a man of strong Christian faith, a loving father and generous friend. His presence on this earth will be deeply missed. He was preceded in death by his father, Howard Henderson, his mother Agnes (Minn) Henderson, brother Harley Henderson, sister Linda Moore and son Hudson Henderson. He is survived by his sister Darlene Vierya, daughter Ivy Logan, daughter Grace Henderson, son Jesse Henderson, and two grandchildren. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 5, 2023 at The Journey at First Baptist Church. Memorial donations may be made in lieu of flowers to Love INC of Yampa Valley in care of Grant Mortuary.
