Former Craig resident, Harriet “Virginia” Erwin, died on Sunday, June 7, 2020, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Grand Junction, Colorado. She was 96. A funeral service honoring Virginia’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, June 11, 2020, at Grant Mortuary in Craig. Burial will follow at Craig Cemetery. Virginia (Simpson) Erwin was born to Charles Eugene and Emma Jane (Ogilvie) Simpson on September 3, 1923 in Ahleboro, Massachusetts. She was raised as a ranch girl and loved the outdoors. She had a green thumb and loved tending to her large garden. Over the years, many people always said she had the prettiest yard in town. Virginia also enjoyed rafting, fishing, snowmobiling and she had a four wheeler which she ran the wheels off. Several years ago, Virginia built a cabin and spent lots of time there where she enjoyed the wildlife, especially the elk. Her family and friends will always remember her for her sense of humor. She would often say some of the silliest things at the most unexpected times. Above all Virginia was a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother. She will be missed by all. She lived a long and happy life. She is survived by three daughters: Gloria of Grand Junction, Janet and Julie both of Craig. She is further survived by five grandchildren: Scott, Cindy, Jerome, Tana and William. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Lem Erwin; and a son, Bill Erwin. Memorial contributions may be made to the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation in care of Grant Mortuary.
An additional graveside service will be held at 3:00 p.m., Friday, June 12, 2020 at Craig Cemetery.
