Henry (Hank) Wesley Muhme, 96, passed away peacefully at the Doak Walker House, on April 29, 2024 in Steamboat Springs, CO. He was born on November 8, 1927 in Granby, CO to Edward and Leila Muhme. Henry and his family lived on the YMCA ranch in Granby where his parents worked. The family moved to Steamboat Springs in 1946. Henry was introduced to the love of his life, Lydia LaVerne Jones in 1946 by his mother who worked with her. He and Lydia married on February 15, 1948. Henry was a member of the Steamboat Springs Volunteer Fire Department for 20 years. He served in various capacities including Chief. Henry worked at various ranches south of Steamboat, at several sawmills in the area, at Suburban LPG Gas and finally for Greeley Gas Company in Steamboat in 1966. He became the District Manager and then in 1970 was transferred to Canon City, CO to become the Vice-President and Regional Manager for Greeley Gas. He retired in 1992. Henry moved to Craig, CO after the passing of his beloved wife, Lydia in 2012.
Henry enlisted in the U.S. Navy at the age of 17 and was stationed on a ship in the Philippines during WWII. After the war he continued to serve in the Naval Reserve until 1954. He was a skilled sharpshooter and won numerous competitions. He was also a member of the CO State Rifle Team and the team qualified for the Nationals. Henry loved to hunt, fish and camp. He also enjoyed snowmobiling, boating and water skiing. He and Lydia and the children were on the go every weekend.
Henry’s loving family is as follows: Sally Muth (Bob), Jay Muhme (Anne), Shirley Pennington (Frank), Donna Walsh (Denis); grandchildren Laura Brady (Derald), Brian Muth (Angela), Levi Muhme (Jenna), Savannah Bongiorno, Henry Billet (Autumn), Jess Jackson (Josh), Hannah Smith (Jason), Joanna Washburn (Alex), Sarah Allen (Chip) and Seth Walsh (Shauna); great grandchildren Anthony Muth (Shelby), Robert Muth, Katie Justice (Lucas) Brandon Muth, Cole Muhme, Kash Muhme, Kietalyn Bongiorno, Quinten Bongiorno, Lydia Billet, Walker Billet, Ella Smith, Katalina Smith, Addison Washburn, Lucy Washburn, Henry Allen, Thomas Allen and Evelyn Walsh; great great grandchildren Jaxson Muth, Roman Muth and Charlie Muth. He is also survived by his sister, Ruth Barber. Henry was preceded in death by his wife, Lydia and daughter, Sally.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on June 15, 2024 at the Grand Lake Cemetery, Grand Lake, CO. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Wounded Warriors in care of Grant Mortuary.
