Ivan John Kawcak, born May 21, 1936, passed away peacefully with his wife by his side on December 24, 2024, at the Kawcak homestead, where he spent his entire life. Ivan was the 13th of 16 children born to Panko Paul and Julia Biskup Kawcak, marking the end of an era with his passing, though his legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
He is survived by his loving family, including his wife, Regina Kawcak, and Children: John Kawcak (Jennifer), Brenda Terrill (Tim), and Shane Kawcak (Amber). Grandchildren: Aaron, Shaylyn (Ben), Lindsey, Jonnie, Tate, Gage, and Aftyn. Great grandchildren: Paisley and Paxton. Along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Darlene, all of his siblings, and granddaughter Samantha, leaving behind a legacy of love and devotion that future generations will cherish.
Ivan attended Elkhead School near the homestead, though his passion lay far from the classroom. He left school after the 8th grade to devote himself to agriculture, a calling that defined his life. Ivan took over management and ownership of the family ranch, balancing his tireless work on the land with a 17-year night shift at WR Grace (now Colowyo) to purchase the ranch outright.
Ivan was known for his generosity and devotion to others. He shared his love of ranching with children, providing experiences such as riding calves, picking rocks, and learning the values of hard work and determination.
A man of deep dedication, Ivan worked from sunrise to well past sundown, often until the early hours of the morning, living by the motto, "If it wasn’t hard, it wasn’t work." Despite his quiet demeanor, Ivan could engage in hours-long conversations, always ready to lend his wisdom and humor.
He loved cow camp, card games, and cheering for the Denver Broncos and college football. Ivan was involved in The National Guard, The Cattlemens Association, and the National Farmers Organization, and he supported the Moffat County Fair.
Above all, Ivan's life was a testament to resilience, community, and love. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, integrity, and the countless lives he touched with his kindness and spirit.
Though his boots now rest, Ivan's legacy lives on in the fields he tilled, the lessons he taught, and the family and friends who cherished him. Ride on, cowboy—your trail will never fade.
