James Melton Belk born to Frances I. and Fred Melton Belk December 23, 1936 in Kimball, NE. Jim graduated from Kimball High School in May 1956 and listed in the United States Navy Submarine School. In September 1958, Jim married LuAnn Schleicher of Scottsbluff, NE and had four children Sherry, Connie, Phil and Maryfrances. Jim’s final duty station was Charleston SC Naval Shipyard in which he retired in 1979 as a Chief Petty Officer. In 1980, Jim and family moved to Craig, Co and worked for Colo-Ute/Tri State Power Plant in which he retired in 1996. In March of 1997 he married Nancy Pugh Miles of Craig, CO. Dad gained bonus children, Tim, Terry and Carol. In 2010, he committed his life to Jesus Christ and attended St. Michael’s Catholic Church and served with the Knights of Columbus. Jim was full of life and had a funny sense of humor. In retirement, Jim enjoyed painting and facing timing his friends and family. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Michael Catholic Church in Craig, Colorado, on Saturday, September 13, 2025, starting at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Craig Cemetery with military honors presented by the VFW Post 4265 and American Legion Post 62.
