Jim Soots passed away in his sleep June 15, 2025. Jim was born in California to Frances & Noble Soots. He was the middle one of 3 boys: Bob, Jim & Bill. Jim started coming to Steamboat Springs in the early 60's hunting & fishing. In 1977, Jim loaded up his family and moved to Steamboat Springs. He wanted to raise his daughter, Cherie, in a better place. Jim loved his family & friends, proud grandpa was an understatement. He was the neighborhood grandfather, the kids on his block would go to Grandpa Jim’s for treats and gumballs. Jim was passionate about hunting and even more about fishing! He fished up to the day he passed. If he wasn’t fishing he could be found building fishing poles or washing his boat. He was a volunteer for the Steamboat Springs Fire Department and worked various jobs leading up to his 20-year career as a Jailer for the Routt County Sheriff’s Department. Boy did he have stories to tell!
Jim was a craftsmen, a master of all trades. On days when the fishing was bad he could be found tinkering in his garage giving new life to old things. He was often called upon by the neighbors for his handy man services.
