

Jay was born on August 9, 1963 in Craig, Colorado. He graduated from Moffat County High School and later graduated from Lineman School in Grand Junction. As a longtime local, Jay served the community as a Moffat County deputy Sheriff for ten years. He then began to run the family business, Wagner Construction, which expanded to multiple business entities.
Throughout his professional career, he also raised three children: Steve, Tallyn and Bailey. Jay had a fun streak and a witty sense of humor. He enjoyed snowmachining, boating, live music, having dinner with his friends, and spending weekends at his cabin in the mountains with his loved ones.
He was preceded in death by his parents Lavina “Billie” Mae Sanchez and Raymond Fred “Bud” Wagner. He is survived by his children Steven Wagner, Tallyn Wagner, Bailey Wagner; his grandchildren Weston Wagner and Addison Wagner; his siblings Christina Browning, Clint Wagner, Wayne Wagner, and Julie Haynes; and his beloved dog Ripper. He will be deeply missed.
The family invites all who loved Jay to attend a memorial service at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 14, 2026, at The Journey at First Baptist Church in Craig, CO. A lunch reception will follow the services.
