Jerry Vere Pierce was born on May 15, 1929, in Los Angeles, California. He passed away peacefully with family by his side on March 19, 2026, in Boulder, Colorado. He was preceded in death by his wife, Fern June
Counts; his mother, Cleona Belle Witt; his father, Chester Vere Pierce; and his younger brother, Lenard Ray Pierce.
Jerry married Fern on March 2, 1955, in Craig, Colorado. They had three children: Allan Ray, Randy Taylor, and Sheri Renee Pierce. Jerry worked for the State of Colorado Communications, beginning as a dispatcher. His promotions took him to Grand Junction, Gypsum, Pueblo, and eventually Denver, where he rose through the ranks to become a System Engineer.
He served as an elder in the Church of Christ in Denver and was a founder of a new congregation in the rapidly growing suburb of Aurora, Colorado. He and Fern made a wonderful team, serving the church in many capacities. He left a lasting impression on countless people - young and old - who were touched by his kind and loving manner.
Jerry also built a mountain home with several of Ferns siblings east of Meeker, a place they fondly called The Ponderosa. He transformed a marshy piece of riverfront land with no utilities into a fully functioning summer
home with running water, indoor bathrooms, and a kitchen. He saved all his vacation time so the family could spend an entire month there each summer, along with Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends. We all have cherished memories of fishing, hiking, and camping at the Ponderosa. The Counts family reunion was held
there every Fourth of July, and we always enjoyed playing with our cousins, aunts, and uncles.
Jerry was a wonderfully kind, strong, and patient man - dedicated to God and his family, and a shining example of grace. We are blessed to have had him as a father and friend.
