Ken retired from MO as a construction superintendent. After moving to CO, he worked at Western Slope Truss, MJK and Masterworks.
Ken is survived by his wife of the home, Jan Haymes; his son Justin and wife, Keli of MO; his son Geoff and wife, Amber of CO; four grandchildren Kaila Lock, Karlee Starnes, Malcolm Haymes and Catalina Haymes; one great grandson, Nash Lock; two brothers, Rick Haymes and Dennis Haymes; brother and sister-in-law, Steve and Eileen Jones; sister-in-law, Diane Jones; and a host of family and friends. Ken is survived by very special friends who were like family; Vic & Amy Updike and family; and Lee and Kathy Fagan and family. Ken, Lee and Vic had a very special bond, much like brothers. They share many special memories of fishing, hunting and laughing but their bond of friendship will never be forgotten.
The Haymes family would like to extend a special blessing to their neighbor, Kelly Brady. Kelly has been beyond a blessing to have as a friend and neighbor. There are no words to express our gratitude for the assistance, support and friendship that Kelly has been to us.
Ken was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with friends and family enjoying the outdoors. Ken was fortunate enough to have many hunting buddies but his KS hunting buddies and Billy Mack held a special place in Ken’s life. Ken also enjoyed cooking on the grill and provided many delicious meals to friends and family throughout the years. Ken also enjoyed reading and history and had a remarkable penchant for detail, which always came in handy when telling a story. Ken was an exemplary story teller. Anyone who knew Ken could count on a very detailed and moving story and a wonderful belly laugh too.
Ken’s greatest joy was his family. Ken was a first-class grandpa who enjoyed sharing life with his grandchildren and great-grandchild. Ken enjoyed sharing their growth and accomplishments with everyone he knew.
After relocating to CO in 1996 Ken was able to enjoy the outdoor activities he loved of hunting turkey, ducks and doves. Fishing the beautiful Yampa River and the Elk Head and Hahn’s Peak reservoirs and Steamboat Lake. And garden the ‘tater patch’ with Vic and Lee at the Updike Farm.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents; a nephew, Brent Haymes; a brother-in-law, Mark Jones; his in-laws Maxine Jones and Kennard Jones; and his black lab, Rip.
