

He was born on January 17, 1939 in Roanoke, a son of Frank and Lillie (Ulrich) Hauter. Frank married Sue Carol Keeton on August 13, 1960 in Pekin.
Frank is survived by his beloved wife of over 66 years, Sue Carol Hauter of Pekin; three children, Gordon James Hauter of Nokomis, Florida, Carol Sue (Kurt) Friel of Port Orange, Florida and Daniel Wayne Hauter of Franklin, Tennessee; seven grandchildren, Amanda Nicole “Nikki” Tilton, Lillie Marie Hauter, Rose Elizabeth Hauter, Brad Edward Martin, Chad Michael Martin, Melissa Megan Willis and Ryan Kurt Friel; and twelve great-grandchildren.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Lillie Hauter; one brother, Gordon Lee Hauter; one son, William Jeffrey Hauter; one grandson, Gordon James Hauter II; and his beloved in-laws, William and Twyla Keeton.
Frank worked over 30 years for Caterpillar, Inc in Montgomery, IL as a Weld Development Analyst, retiring in 1990. Shortly after retiring, Caterpillar brought him back as a Global Weld Development Analyst, mentoring his skillsets internationally in China, Mexico and Brazil.
Frank was also a talented self taught master woodworking craftsman creating many lasting treasures for all of his family and friends. In his spare time, Frank loved to cook; he was a fabulous cook! Frank was the kind of guy that would go to bed thinking about what he could cook the next day to share with anyone that was willing to enjoy his creations. He will forever be remembered as a humorous guy who could make friends with anyone. Frank’s charming and sweet disposition will be dearly missed by any and all who had the honor of being in his presence.
His memorial visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, April 24, 2026 at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Creve Coeur. A memorial service will follow at 1 p.m. with Pastor Dwight Winnett officiating. A private family burial will be at Roanoke Township Cemetery at a later date.
