Carolyn was born on January 13, 1943 in Charleston, WV to the late Reno and Margaret Halstead. In addition to her parents, Carolyn was also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Charles E. Parrish and sister Elizabeth Kuchar.
Carolyn was a 1960 graduate of Stonewall Jackson High School and then became a proud military spouse who supported her husband’s career in the U.S. Navy for eight years.
Upon their return home Carolyn pursued a 34 year career at Charleston Area Medical Center, where she also would serve as a Credit Committee Member for the CAMC Federal Credit Union for six years. While working and raising their children, Carolyn and her husband spent lots of evenings creating woodwork and crafting.
She is survived by her daughters, Carrie Parrish King and Cathy Parrish Shepherd,
of Cross Lanes; grandchildren, Cam King (Bekah), Chelsie Hager (Derek), Brandon Shepherd (Paige) and Buck Shepherd (Miranda); great-grandchildren, Charlie, Dax, Eli, and a new little one on the way; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Everyone who knew Grammy knew what a wonderful cook she was and how much she enjoyed hosting a house full of family & friends. If she wasn’t cooking for her family, you could find her at one of her grandkids sporting events or after they graduated, providing nanny care for her “replacement” grandchildren, Addison and Elijah Deskins. She was a devoted Christian, wife, mother and Grammy and her gentle, serving nature will be deeply missed by her family. Carolyn’s family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to her amazing caregivers, Dee, Dawn and Anecia; and a special shout out to Billy Dunlap for the exceptional care and love over the last several years.
Celebration of Carolyn’s life will be 7:00 P.M. Thursday, June 27, 2024 at Tyler Mt. Funeral Home with Pastor Donnie Bannister officiating.
Gathering of family and friends will be from 5 until time of service at the funeral home.
