Ella M. Smith, 72 of Rand, WV was called into God’s arms Thursday, February 9th at CAMC General Hospital after a sudden illness. She was born to the late Lucy and Sherman Hairston on May 8th, 1951 in Omar, WV. She grew up in Rand, WV where she attended DuPont High School. Later in life she started out as a hairdresser for the local kids in the neighborhood, then she worked in janitorial for BMI Janitorial Services, afterwards she received home aide training from Red Cross and Special Touch In-Home Care where she later enjoyed being a caregiver for many years. She carried a true devotion to faith and a belief in God’s word. She gave her life to God while attending True Church House of Prayer/Faith Tabernacle Pentecostal Church while under the leadership of her sister the late Evangelist Barbara J. Whitestone. After retirement Ella never knew anyone as a stranger she would generously extend a helping hand to anyone in need. She left an incredible impression on everyone that had the chance of knowing her. Ella loved spending time with her grandkids, traveling, watching wrestling with Jack, westerns and being a devoted wife.
She was preceded in death by her son Raymond Smith III, sisters Mary Hairston-Brown, Barbara Whitestone, Catherine Carr, Sally Turner, along with nephew James Hairston. She leaves to mourn her husband Raymond Smith of Rand, WV, daughter Ella Smith of Rand, WV, sons Michael Smith (Leslie) of Rand, WV and Maurice Smith (Christina) of Saint Albans, WV, and brother Robert Hairston (Luetta) of Rand, WV. Ella also leaves behind a large family legacy of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
May Ella rest in God’s arms knowing she will not be forgotten but celebrated for her presence on Earth.
