Garrett E. Hudson, 92, of St. Albans passed away January 13, 2016. He was born May 6, 1923 and married Rosetta Thaxton July 9, 1946. They had five children, Gary, who is deceased, Rita and her husband, Delmar, Dennis and his girlfriend, Debbie, Debra and her fiancé, Rick and Mark and his girlfriend, Ann. He is also survived by several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his brother, Don Hudson of Illinois. Garrett worked at Hall’s Transit until the day he retired. He loved driving trucks. He was home every night. His wife, Rosetta, passed away April 30, 2014. They were married 68 years. She was the “love of his life”! He joined the Army February 27, 1943 and was stationed in Anchorage, Alaska. He was a corporal A761 in the military police battalilion. He was honorably discharged February 27, 1946 receiving a Good Conduct Medal, American Theatre Ribbon and a World War II Victory Ribbon. Garrett also got medals for perfect driving – “No Accidents”. Everyone who knew our dad, knew he never acted or looked his age. He was full of life, energy and was good-minded. He loved to wave and talk to people and always helped his neighbors. Even at the age of 91, he would decorate the whole house with Christmas lights with no help from anyone. He loved doing that. He loved to tinker in his garage on anything, including lawnmowers, weed eaters, etc. He would get them all up and running. Also at the age of 91 he built two decks on the back of his home. He was a jack of all trades. Our family can’t imagine what we are going to do without him. He has shown us the meaning of love and unselfishness. God blessed us with awesome parents! We want to give a special thank you to Kathy Hudson and Anna Casto who were so kind to help Dad at times working in his home. “Daddy, you are going to be so sadly missed!! Love you!!” Your family. A celebration of Garrett’s life will be 11:00, Saturday, January 16, 2016 at Casdorph & Curry Funeral Home, 110 B Street, St. Albans. Burial will follow in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans with military graveside rites. There will be a gathering of family and friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
