She was born June 3, 1927 to the late Hubert and Salvie McClanahan. She also was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Ernest Whittington and brother Harold McClanahan.
Margaret is survived by her daughter, Charlene Kim Keeney (Michael), granddaughter Rachel Keeney, sister Wanda McClanahan, brothers Gilbert (Sandra) and Frank (Shelby) McClanahan and a host of nieces and nephews.
Raised on the family farm during the depression era, Margaret had a strong work ethic and a stubborn self-reliance. Her work history included a supervisory position at C&P telephone, Libby Owens Ford and at the Diamond department store. She, with her husband, cultivated a large vegetable garden every year. Even in her 80’s, she would work the tiller in the spring preparing the garden for planting.
Celebration of Margaret’s life will be 6:00 P.M. Thursday, May 18, 2023 at Tyler Mountain Funeral Home with Pastor Scott Bandy officiating. Burial will be in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.
Gathering of family and friends will be from 4:30 until time of service at the funeral home.
