She was born December 9, 1949 in Charleston, the daughter of Cecil Ray and Ruth Burton Simms. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by brother Jerry Simms.
She is survived by her sons, Dale Dawson, of Charleston, Chris (Cheyan) Dawson, of Poca, grandchildren Eli, Riley, Chase, Elizabeth, Holden, and Trenton. In September she welcomed her first great grandson, Sawyer. Also left to cherish her memory are her goddaughter Brittany LaPorta and former daughter-in-laws Georgiana Dawson, Tara Shamblin, and Lisa Kelly.
The family would like to express sincere thanks and appreciation to the staff at Genesis Teays Valley Center. You were more than caregivers; you became a friend to her and kept her company when family couldn’t be there.
To her “children” on 3 West at CAMC Memorial. You were there for her so many times. Your warmth, kindness, and humor provided a sense of security that made her feel safe time after time. You were family to her, and she asked about you often.
