Marilyn LaRue Miller Dabney, 90, passed away on Monday, September 9, 2024. She was the daughter of Grace (Steiner) and Chester Harold Miller and was born in Charleston, West Virginia. After several moves during her childhood and adult life, she made Nitro, West Virginia, her home for the last 54 years.
She is survived by Ira Monroe (Jack) Dabney, her husband of 70 years, and her four daughters and sons-in-law: Linda West, Carolyn and Wayne Shafer, Janet and Rick Booker, and Kathy and Tracy Trail, in addition to 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandsons.
Marilyn loved to read, golf, bowl, and walk the neighborhood. She especially enjoyed family gatherings every weekend by the pool during the summers. She was a traveler, visiting such places as Florida, Puerto Rico, Texas, and California. She always reminisced about her girls' trip to Myrtle Beach with her daughters and one son-in-law as the chauffer. Perhaps one of her greatest sources of joy was testing her luck at the casinos. One memorable trip was a three-day excursion to Atlantic City where she was the only one of an eight-person group to win a tax ticket.
Her proudest accomplishment was raising four strong, independent daughters for which she took little credit. Her family adored her and will miss her deeply.
Celebration of Marilyn’s life will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at Tyler Mt. Funeral Home, Cross Lanes.
Gathering of family and friends will be from noon until time of service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Hubbard Hospice House (1606 Kanawha Blvd. W, Charleston, WV 25387) whose staff provided her comfort during her final hours.
