She was born June 25, 1927 in Ottawa, the daughter of Robert and Lucy Mahan Ellis. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her son, Steve, and sister, Katherine Barker.
Jeanette retired from Kanawha County Schools after 20 years of service. She taught at Fairview Elementary and Highlawn Elementary. Upon retirement she and her husband moved to Oak Island North Carolina for 14 years. She had been active in the community and her church in North Carolina. She was a member of Riverlawn Presbyterian Church, St. Albans.
She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, Jeremiah, daughter, Cathy Kennedy and her husband John, of MA, sons, Allen Poe and his wife Peggy, of Nitro, and Timothy Poe and his wife Rosa, of Kissimmee, FL, brother, Robert Ellis, of St. Albans, 5 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren.
Celebration of Jeanette’s life will be 2:00 PM Sunday, at Casdorph & Curry Funeral Home with Pastor Chris Kilbert officiating. Burial will follow in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans.
Gathering of family and friends will be from 1 until time of service at the funeral home.
