

Raymond McKnight Sloan, Jr. formerly of Nitro passed away peacefully in his home in Huntington on Saturday, October 21, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents Dr. Raymond McKnight Sloan, Sr. and Matilda Prichard Sloan. He was survived by three children Charlotte P. Sloan, Raymond McKnight Sloan, III, Judith B. Henson and her husband Mike, step daughter Sue Campbell, his grandchildren Michael Henson, LuAnn Hodges, Julia Jackson Paxton and husband Ethan Paxton, Phillip Hardy, Jennifer Jackson Cox and husband Eric Cox, Rowan Hardy and Brianna Nicole Henson, great grandchildren Samantha Hodges, Allen Hodges, Cameron Paxton, Nicholas Paxton Isabella Paxton and Alexis Cox, sister Matilda Mynes and her husband Clyde Mynes and various nieces and nephews. Mr. Sloan was a veteran of the United States Army. He retired from WV State University at Institute where he worked in purchasing. Mr. Sloan was a dedicated humanitarian giving much of his time to helping others in need and in his early years volunteering for missions in South America. He spent much of his life living in the Nitro area and the last few years in Huntington with his loving companion, Johnda Wells. “Mac” to most, will be remembered for his kindness and willingness to help those in need. A celebration of his life will be 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 25, 2017 at Casdorph & Curry Funeral Home, 110 B Street, St. Albans with H. R. Whittington as celebrant. Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until service time. Burial will immediately follow the service in Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans with graveside rites conducted by St. Albans VFW Post 6418 and American Legion Post 73.
