Richard Franklin Hager, 87, of Scott Depot, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Sunday, December 31, 2017 at Hubbard Hospice House West. Born December 29, 1930 to the late Anna Laura and Henry Harrison Hager in Seth, WV, Richard attended Sherman High School and graduated in 1948. He went on to serve in the United States Army and was wounded in Korea for which he received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was honorably discharged from service on September 14, 1953. Richard then used the G. I. Bill to attend Capitol City Commercial College and majored in accounting and business administration. He worked for Royal Oldsmobile in Charleston where he was business manager and later general manager before retiring in 1980. He was a faithful servant of the Lord and a member of Washington Street Church of Christ in St. Albans where he had been a song leader and deacon. He also worked on the Bible Correspondence Courses at the church as it was his desire for everyone to know the truth of the gospel of Jesus Christ. He enjoyed golfing, fishing and camping earlier in his life, but, when they became too difficult, he turned his interests more into gospel music, bird watching with his wife, Wanda, and thoroughly delighting in going for a ride to get a Tudor’s biscuit with family members. He also loved vanilla ice cream and was able to enjoy some on his last day on earth, New Year’s Eve. Richard is survived by his caring wife of 63 years, Brookie Juanita (Kirk) Hager; son, Richard Allan (Pam) Hager; daughter, Marcia (Doug) Payne; sons, Paul (Wendy) Hager and Tony (Allyson) Hager; grandchildren, Jason, Seth, Corey, Lindsey, Austin, Elizabeth, Victoria and John-Phillip; 15 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild; sisters, Betty Crowder, Linda King and Judy Adkins. In addition to his parents, Richard was preceded in death by his sisters, Evelyeen Douglas and Peggy Hager; brothers, Carl and Bill Hager; and grandson, Isreal Michael Ford.
