Born in Middlesex Hospital in New Jersey (9/20/40), her family moved to Croton in 1944, and it was her home for much of her life. After graduating from Croton-Harmon High School, she got her Bachelor’s degree in Special Education at Buffalo State Teachers College. She worked at the Hawthorne Children's Home before marrying and raising her family.
Over the years she moved to Peekskill, Middletown and most recently, Ellenville, always sharing housing and life with her children and grandchildren, who were her pride and joy, her reason for living.
Ilse worked for many years for the Hudson Valley Developmental Disabilities Service office. She treated the individuals in her care as if they were her own family.
Her indomitable spirit transcended the pain that she had to endure at the end of her life. Ilse didn't put on airs. Loved by so many, her memory will be forever cherished along with the memories of her parents Abe and Selma and brothers Michael and Danny.
Ilse is survived by her children John, Greta, Lesley, Martha, Gerald, and Lynne, her grandchildren Jordan, Alex, Ben, Lucas, Joy, Gloria, Destiny, Franky, Talya, and Caitlyn, great-grandson Carter, former husband Leo, and brother David.
Good job, Ilse. Rest in peace.
