Joseph Patrick Masopust, a resident of Wallkill, NY, passed away on April 1, 2024. He was 69 years old. Joseph was born on March 18, 1955, in Sleepy Hollow, NY to the late John Joseph Masopust Jr. and Edith Scalzo. Before his retirement, he was a warehouse supervisor for Grand Union and C and S Wholesale. Joe grew up in Croton-on-Hudson, where he became a little league baseball standout before starting at Croton-Harmon High School. He went on to play baseball for Pace University while earning his bachelor’s degree. After graduating from Pace, he returned to his alma mater to give back as a baseball coach. In 1981, he helped lead Croton-Harmon High School to the first ever New York State Public High School Athletic Associations' baseball state championship title. He met his “princess” Mary Lynn O’Donnell of Ossining, New York and they began their fairytale marriage on September 10, 1983. They later moved to Wallkill, New York where they raised two sons, Brian and Scott. He always put his family first, working hard to provide everything they needed and more. He never missed a family event or a game, despite his hectic work schedule and responsibilities. Joe always lit up a room with his personality and attire. He took pride in his appearance and would often brag about the “great deal” he got on items in his wardrobe. A habitual jokester, Joe was known for lightly teasing his friends and family and would remind them that “nobody was safe” from him “breaking their chops.” With an innate ability to build relationships with people, Joe got along well with everyone, no matter their age or background. His positive approach and ability to lift everyone up made him a great leader in his profession as a supervisor, a coach, husband, father, and grandfather, and as a member of the communities he graced with his presence. His legacy of kindness, love, and support sets an example for all of us to live by as we embrace life's peaks and valleys.
He is survived by his loving wife Mary Lynn O’Donnell Masopust, formally of Ossining, his son Brian Masopust and wife Christina of Wallkill, son Scott Masopust of Garnier, the light of his life, granddaughter Sophia Alice Masopust of Wallkill, his brother John Joseph Masopust III and wife Buffie of Hillard, Ohio, his brother Gary Masopust of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, his sister Anna Masopust Davis and husband Michael of Yonkers, his brother Christopher Masopust and wife Doreen of Montrose, his mother in-law Barbara O’Donnell of Ossining, his brother in-law Danny O’Donnell and wife Lisa of Waterbury, Connecticut, his brother in-law Kevin O’Donnell and wife Jacqueline of Stuart, Florida, and countless nieces, nephews, and friends.
Visitation is scheduled for Sunday, April 7th from 2-6pm at Edward F. Carter Funeral Home, 41 Grand Street, Croton-on-Hudson, NY 10520. A Mass of Christian Burial is scheduled for Monday, April 8th at 10:30am at St. Augustine’s Church, 381 NORTH HIGHLAND AVENUE, OSSINING, NEW YORK, 10562. Interment will be Private.
