Margaret Josephine Turner

Margaret (Peg) Josephine Turner recently of Yorktown Heights passed away on Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at the age of 96. Peg was born to the late Arthur and Anna Lundgren in Port Allegany, PA on October 31, 1926. Peg grew up in Port Allegany, PA where she was Valedictorian of her high school class. She attended E.J. Meyer Memorial Hospital for nurse cadet training. During WWII, Peg was assigned to Northport VA Hospital where she met her beloved husband Frederick Turner who was also a WWII Navy Veteran. After her time at the Northport VA, Peg worked doing private duty nursing and at North Shore Medical Group in the eye and ear and orthopedics departments in Huntington, NY.

Peg was active in the United Methodist Church in Northport NY and in Apopka, FL. She was a leader in the community Girl Scouts, United Methodist Women, Garden Club, Rotary, and other organizations where she drove people who had no transportation to doctor appointments etc. She also enjoyed throwing monthly birthday parties for residents in adult homes. Peg and Fred enjoyed travelling. They visited all over the world from Canada, Australia and Europe, all the states including Alaska and Hawaii. Peg put her family first. She was present at all of her grandchildren’s births.

Peg is survived by her loving children Paul W. Turner(Gigi), Marilyn Turner, Carol Scavarda (John), Jane Ketchner (Richard), and Laura J. Cocchi; 12 cherished grandchildren, Lucas Turner, Michelle Principe (Justin), Annamarie Scavarda, Matthew Scavarda, Debra Ketchner, Mary Ketchner and Thomas Ketchner (Amanda), and Greta Ketchner, Alivia Cocchi, Julia Cocchi, Lauramae Leverock (Jesse), and Brian Cocchi, Jr., and by four adored great grandchildren Dylan Principe, Ryan Principe, Lily Leverock, and Noel Leverock.

Peg was predeceased by her beloved husband Frederick Turner in 2014, by her grandson Christopher Scavarda in 2000, and by her sister Betty DuBois.
