I am deeply saddened to discover that my old friend Ralph died last year. Ralph and I were friends as children, and remained so into adulthood for a long time.  We grew apart at some point, and now I struggle to remember the last time we talked.

What I do remember clearly are the great times we had together as friends, playing together as kids, partying as teenagers, and getting together ocassionnaly over the years with our wives and young children. Ralph was always a fun-loving guy, and he had a sharp wit that would easily make you laugh. One anecdote my Mom recently reminded me of was when we were in the 7th grade, Ralph and I were a bit consumed by the 'British invasion', and we wanted to be rock stars.  We especially loved some of the songs by Herman's Hermits, 'Mrs. Brown You've Got a Lovely Daughter', and the annoyingly repetitive 'I'm Henry the VIIIth I Am'. We would practice those songs for hours and imagine ourselves as rock stars, always laughing and joking along the way, and never taking ourselves too seriously.

We drifted apart in our early teenage years when Ralph's family moved across town, but we found each other again in high school. Ralph was a hard worker, and he saved his money to buy himself a brand new Chevy Vega.  I have especially fond memories of the times we spent riding around town in that car to hang out with our other friends.

Fast forward to the late 70s, when Ralph was the best man at our wedding.  From then until the early 2000's, my wife Cathy and I looked forward to the times we would spend with Ralph, Theresa and their kids. It didn't happen often enough, but it was always a bright spot in any trip we made back to New England. Ralph was so easy-going, we would immediately revert to our childhood habits of laughing and joking about the silliest little things.

There was something special about Ralph and the way he connected with people, and I will always remember him fondly for the great times we shared.

I just found out about Ralph's passing. And am overcome with sadness. Ralph sold me my first and second Mustang. He helped me afford those vehicles through methods that he did not have to do. He went out of his way to be a real person and not a salesman. Through this experience we became friends and I spent many a late night talking to him at his second job. I had noticed he had not been around town in some time but did not know where he had gone off to. Apparently this was the answer. Ralph was an intriguing and amazingly introspective individual whose care for others in his life was unrivaled. I'm so happy to have gotten to know him, and his interactions even in a business atmosphere taught me a powerful lesson about not sacrificing your own ideals in the name of the dollar. I only wish I had gotten to read your autobiography which with no doubt remains unfinished. Rest well sir, And I will not forget you.

I only knew Ralph for a short time but it did not take me long to realize he was a truly good, kind and gentle man. My condolences to his family and may they find comfort in the fact that he is at peace. I will also remember him.

My husband and I were saddened to learn of Ralph's illness and passing. We met him in 2010 when we purchased our Mustang. He was a perfect gentleman, honest, not pushy and we always fondly recalled our dealings with him. We hope he rests in peace.

I' m saddened to hear of Ralph leaving this world.  It's my belief that he was a good man who loved his children very much.  When some someone is as sick as he was, going to Heaven is a beautiful welcoming journey.  Ralph will always be with his loved ones, in so many ways.   My love to his family, Peg Bentley
