Wilma "Cherie" Arline Wright

Wilma "Cherie" Arline Wright, age 87, of Croton On Hudson, New York passed away on Wednesday, August 24, 2022. Wilma was born to Ianthe Ader Whitener and Alfonso Whitener Sr. on January 17, 1935 in Brooklyn, New York. After living in Brooklyn for many years Alfonso relocated his family to Hempstead, L.I., NY where Wilma grew up with her brother, the late Alfonso Whitener Jr, sister Sharon Moses and brother George Hoft.

Wilma married Ernest A. Cherry II in June1953 and from that union were born Ernest A. Cherry III and Darlene Theresa Cherry (m. Daniels). She later married Benjamin Wright (1962) and from that union were born Lisa Angela Wright and Adrienne Lynn Wright.

Wilma's professional calling was nursing and she received her RN from Queens Hospital Center School of Nursing in 1970. She enjoyed many years working as a nurse in hospitals, performing private duty for critically ill children and as a school nurse before she retired in 2012. She dedicated 42 years of her life to the care of others!

Artistically inclined, Wilma enjoyed many hobbies such as crocheting, sewing, macrame, pottery making, jewelry making, photography, woodworking and in recent years coloring. The fruits of her craftsmanship were visible all throughout her home and many family members and friends have been graced with handmade gifts from her.

Wilma was a lover of all animals but most of all horses (which she collected) and cats (many of which she owned throughout her life). She would be happy to know that her constant companion of the past year, Bailey, has a new and loving forever home.

Wilma is survived by her four children Ernest (Rusty), Lisa, Darlene and Adrienne. Sister Sharon Moses and brother George Hoft a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephew, extended family members and friends.

A memorial visitation for Wilma will be held Saturday, September 3, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Edward F Carter Funeral Home, 41 Grand Street, Croton-on-Hudson, NY 10520. The memorial service will begin at 4 PM followed by a small repast at the funeral home.
