Dianne Lynn Hill, 63, of Crystal Lake, passed away from cancer complications surrounded by her family on October 6, 2021. She was born March 25, 1958, to Howard and Marilyn (Naatz) Grandt of Crystal Lake. She attended Immanuel Lutheran School and was a 1976 graduate of Crystal Lake Central High School. She married the love of her life, David E. Hill of Huntley, on August 17, 1979. She was the loving mother to David Jr. (Misty), Dustin (Robin), Danielle (Omar) Niamatali, Darcy, and Jessica (James) Sweeney. She will be forever missed by her 9 grandchildren Evan, Ryan, Aiden, Addison, Mason, Grant, Anabella, Omar and Lucas.
Dianne’s work ethic was second to none, often times having multiple jobs, wearing many hats over the years. She spent years working at Safety-Kleen, as a crossing guard at West Elementary School, at the General Store on Crystal Lake’s west end, at White Hen Pantry, and babysat out of her home for many years. She even cleaned and packaged caviar for the Collins Caviar Company. She was blessed to then make a career at Catalent Pharma Solutions in Woodstock retiring in 2020 after 28 years of service. She worked in almost every department over the years. In her last position, she had a meticulously detailed job writing pharmaceutical batch records and standard operating procedures as the Document Control Coordinator. Her photographic memory and attention to detail helped her to excel in her position. She made many friends there over the years and their close relationships kept her eager to face each new week as she’d always say, “Happy Monday!”
Dianne was strong in her faith and a lifetime member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. She was a Godmother to many. Dianne was passionate, loving and never met a stranger. She especially loved spending time with her family. She was a dedicated mother and was treasured by her children. She could often be found cheering on her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews at their sporting events and school activities. She especially loved watching baseball. She made juggling her children’s schedules look effortless as she shuttled them to all their activities over the years. She enjoyed the little things with them like taking her daughters shopping, going to the library, ordering fun Christmas presents, sewing Halloween costumes, planning parties, indulging in desserts like Nothing Bundt Cake or Fannie May chocolates, cooking their favorite foods, listening to music, driving on the hilly road, and planning vacations together. She loved being a grandma and Godmother, spoiling all the children. She looked forward to playing games, making crafts, and enjoying their company. She babysat many children over the years and was always loving and welcoming to all. She also enjoyed sewing, gardening, playing cards, was a great pianist and a talented cook and baker. She was always selfless and generous, helping others before worrying about herself, making sure her family and friends were provided for.
She and her husband of 42 years had a love that never grew old. From the day they first met, they were best friends. They enjoyed vacationing, attending car shows, taking long drives, and antiquing. She loved boating and watching her husband catch fish. They would often jump in the truck and take weekend trips on a whim. They loved to seek out waterfalls, lighthouses, and sit on the beach. Their love and friendship continued to grow over the years as they enjoyed life and new hobbies together.
She will be remembered with love by her husband David, her children, grandchildren, sisters Cathy (Ellis) Winter, and Linda (Steve) Mellow, in-laws Carl Hill and Shelby Jones, and many cousins, aunts, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, nephew Jonathan Winter, and godson Jeff Skiba. Her legacy of selflessness, caring, support, and taking care of others will live on through her family and friends.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff at Northwestern Medical Hospitals in Winfield and Huntley for their care and compassion.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dianne’s name to Immanuel Lutheran Church in Crystal Lake and Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.
Visitation will be held October 22, 4pm-8pm, and a memorial service October 23, 11am, at Querhammer and Flagg Funeral Home, with a reception to follow.
