John Michael Karst

John Michael Karst, Sergeant USMC (retired), beloved husband and loving father, passed away on Friday June 2, 2023.

John leaves behind his wife Joanna Karst, son Grayson, daughter Lily, along with his parents Dennis and Nancy Karst and brothers Steve and Eric Karst. In addition to numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends who he loved very much. His love of his family is only surpassed by the love of his wife and beautiful children, who he couldn't have been more proud of.

John was a veteran of the Gulf War Era. He served in the Marine Corps from November 2015 to November 2020. He was stationed in Miramar at HMH-462 "Screw Crew" and completed 3 deployments before being promoted to Logistics Officer and Sergeant. After his honorable discharge, John purchased a house in McHenry, IL to enjoy his family life with his wife and two children, along with his two dogs, his cat, and Cheeto, a snake he bought for Grayson. He will be remembered by all for his love of family and friends, his smile, sometimes sarcastic wit, and making every event better with his presence. John's passions were fishing, boating, camping, golf, and sharing that love with his children. He was a husband, father, son, brother, friend, veteran, baseball coach, and so much more. He will be missed by all who knew him, and we pray that his memory will never be forgotten.

A visitation for John will be held Saturday, June 10, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Querhammer & Flagg Funeral Home, 500 W Terra Cotta Ave, Crystal Lake, Illinois 60014, followed by a funeral service at 4:00 PM.
