She met Gary Koch in October of 1981 in Kansas City, Missouri. They became engaged on February 13, 1982 in Houston, Texas and were married in Kansas City on April 24, 1982.
Marilyn is survived by her husband; her son Matt (Sarat) Koch; her grandsons Alex and Bomani; her siblings Pat (Don) Ziembiec, David Lennox, Andy (Jeorganna) Lennox, and Rick (Carol) Lennox; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents.
Marilyn dedicated over twenty years to St. Paul's United Church of Christ as their administrative assistant. She was very proud to receive her Associates degree from McHenry County College. In her free time, she enjoyed baking, crafting and creating holiday cards, scrapbooks, and decorative art. She loved serving as the "Team Mom" for her son's youth baseball teams. With her family, she was able to visit every MLB ballpark. She took many trips to Hawaii and Las Vegas. She especially enjoyed Arizona, where she would attend Spring Training and Fall League baseball games.
Her entire family was very important to her, especially her daughter-in-law who she treated like a daughter. She enjoyed every moment spent with them in Illinois, Buffalo, Kansas City, and Dallas. Once into retirement, Marilyn was always excited to spend time with and take care of her grandsons, taking them with her on errands or treating them to new experiences.
A celebration of Marilyn's life will be held on Friday May 31, 2024 from 9am until 10am at Bethany Lutheran Church, 76 W Crystal Lake Ave, Crystal Lake, IL 60014.
