Robert Cline Proffitt, age 95, of Cary, Illinois passed away on Tuesday, September 3, 2024. He was born August 18, 1929 in Webster Grove, MO to Ione (Cline) and George Proffitt. On November 11, 1951, Bob married Grace Turner. Bob was a veteran of the United States Army, having served as a Private First Class during the Korean War.
Bob was a Printer, who retired in the 1990s but to stay active in retirement, he worked part-time as a Sam's Club greeter.
He loved the Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears sports teams and was ecstatic to finally see the Cubs win the World Series in 2016 at the youthful age of 87. Bob was in numerous bowling leagues over the years with his pals from work. He also remained close to his friends from the old neighborhood in Chicago. He loved to take road trips cross country with his wife Grace, to visit family and friends, while seeing this beautiful country. He enjoyed getting together with family and friends, near and far, and was always the life of the party! He had a larger than life personality who loved music and enjoyed singing along to his country favorites--Willie, Waylon, Merle, George, and Johnny Cash (to just name a few). Though he could be a bit curmudgeonly at times, he had a great sense of humor and was quick to laugh and smile. He would break out in song at the drop of a hat. In his later years, he loved to spend time with his beloved grandchildren to play games and talk sports.
Bob is survived by his children, Bob, Mark (Kathy) and Julie; grandchildren, Dan, Chad (Jen) and Ryan (Lisa); and great-grandchildren, Jakob, Alexis, Preston, Kali and Harper.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Grace, and his four siblings, Georgianne, Bill, Jim, and Butch.
A memorial visitation for Robert will be held Sunday, September 15, 2024 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at Querhammer & Flagg Funeral Home, 500 W Terra Cotta Ave, Crystal Lake, Illinois 60014, followed by a memorial service at 1:00 PM.
