Samuel E. Miller, 89, of Crystal Lake formerly of Oshkosh, Chicago, and Tampa, died peacefully at home on Sunday, December 25, 2011, surrounded by his family. He was born October 3, 1922 in Oshkosh, WI., to Samuel and Helen (Jones) Miller. He married Penny Maslan in 1967 in Chicago, IL. He served in the US Army Air Corps during WWII. He was Chief Engineer for the Army Corps of Engineers Calumet Harbor until his retirement in 1977. He was an avid reader, enjoyed listening and watching sports and news, and was a Cubs fan.
He is survived by his sister Gloria Ernst; step-children Melissa “Toni”, Phillip Rinella, Pamela (Joe) O’Rourke; nephews Paul (Karen), John (June), Rick (Sharon); niece Dawn (Allen) Sculley; and great-uncle to many.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife Penny, and great nephew Ricky.
Visitation will be from 11 am until the 12 pm memorial service on Wed, Dec 29, at Querhammer & Flagg Funeral Home, 500 W. Terra Cotta Ave. Crystal Lake. Cremation rites have been accorded. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given in his name to Hospice of Northeastern Illinois or the American Cancer Society.
