Thomas A. Nemcek

Tom was educated in the Chicago public schools and attended the University of Illinois where he earned Bachelor of Science degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Liberal Arts and Sciences. He was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity.

In 1981, he married the love of his life, Susan M. Kirk, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Decatur, Ill.

Tom was a senior group leader at Abbott Laboratories/ AbbVie from 1991 until his death. He was a member of the Crystal Lake Historic Preservation Commission since 1999, initiating the petition to landmark the Dole Mansion. He was also an active member of the Crystal Lake Historical Society.

Tom enjoyed movies, music, watching Illini football, feeding welcome guests and giving huge hugs, but mostly, he found great happiness in watching his son John play baseball from little league through college.

He leaves behind his wife Susan and son John, as well as his brother William (Sharon) Nemcek of Arizona. He also leaves behind several nieces and nephews. Tom was preceded in death by his parents and sister Barbara.

Visitation will be Sunday, September 7 from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. with a wake service and eulogy at 5:30 pm at Querhammer & Flagg Funeral Home, 500 W. Terra Cotta Ave. Crystal Lake.

The funeral Mass will be at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, 451 W. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake on Monday, September 8 at 10:30 am.

All contributions will go towards John’s college education.
