Thomas Kay Wrighton passed away January 25th, 2023, at Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital after a battle with serious medical issues. Thomas was born in Highland Park, MI. at home, on Valentine’s Day in 1938 to Clarence and Adeline Wrighton. He was called “Tommy” by his beloved big brother, Bill.
Thomas grew up in the suburbs of Detroit. As a child he loved listening to the radio with his family and fondly told the story of when he first heard Orson Welles “The War of the Worlds” on the radio. After high school he joined the Airforce reserves and attended college in Michigan. After college he started his longtime career as an engineer with AT&T in Chicago. Thomas met the love of his life, Linda, while working at AT&T. Tom loved old cars and always dreamed of owning a classic MG in his retirement. After retirement he dubbed himself “A Country Squire”. Brandy and cigars in the evening brought him joy. Tom also loved technology. Especially robotics. He and his granddaughter Madeline spent many hours building and attending robotic competitions together.
Thomas was a kind, gentle and patient soul. He loved without looking back. After the passing of his beloved wife, he stayed strong for his children. He is now at peace and with her.
Thomas is survived by his three children, Kristy Iversen (Jeff Iversen) Edward (Shara) Johnson and Charles Wrighton. Grandchildren, Madeline Iversen, Elizabeth (Blain) Muth and Elliot Strathmann. Great grandchild, Aiden Muth.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother William and his wife, Linda.
