

Funeral services for Adolph Fred Schmale, 93, will be at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25, 2011, at St. John’s Evangelical Protestant Church in Cullman, the Rev. Steve Wood officiating, with burial in Cullman Memory Gardens.
Moss-Service Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Schmale passed away Friday, Sept. 23, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. He was a longtime resident of Cullman, and served in the U.S. Army during World War Ii in the Pacific Theatre. He and Nova celebrated 57 years of married life until her death in 2005. He was a lifelong farmer and was known for his outstanding sweet potato crops.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Nova Self Schmale; his parents, August Henry and Lillie Wolfe Schmale; and sisters, Helen Freeman and Martha Ballance.
Survivors include his son, Maynard (Debra) Schmale of Huntsville; a granddaughter, Erin Olivia Schmale of Auburn; and dear friends, Wilford and Glenda James and Kinnie and Diane Bailey, all of Cullman.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to “Sassy Sages” Senior Group for the Women’s Guild of St. John’s Evangelical Protestant Church, 512 2nd Ave. SE, Cullman, AL 35055.
Pallbearers will be David Ballance, Jimmy Hutchison, Dennis Hutchison, Wilford James, Kinnie Bailey and Brian Guckenberger.
Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the church.
The family wishes to extend special thanks to the staff at Morningside Assisted Living and Cullman Regional Medical Center.
