Cindy, I am so sorry that I can’t be there for you tomorrow, like you were always there for my sweet Jean.   I wasn’t fortunate enough to know your father, but I know he was a wonderful man to have raised a daughter like you. I love you and will always be thankful for you. 

The memories of my Uncle Bob are innumerable. He may be gone from my sight but he will never be gone from my heart. His warm smile and positive outlook made a great impression on me and I was grateful to be his nephew. My first memory was him putting Dale and me on top of his shoulders and walking around inside the house touching the ceiling. We also would grab onto his legs and he would drag us through Grandmas house. When I was 5 years old he gave me my first baseball glove and he would take Dale and me to Cullman County community ball games where he was the catcher and we would chase foul balls. You can tell a lot about a person by looking at their hands. Uncle Bob could never have made it as a hand model because each finger had been smashed, broken or turned crooked due to football, baseball or carpentry.  Uncle Bob would take us to work with him in Birmingham and we got to experience his unique abilities as a carpenter.  I always admired him as a carpenter because he built things all over Alabama and the southeast. Uncle Bob built his own house and I was there when he put up the walls. Watching him I learned what hard work was and how it developed ones character.  I once debated him in trigonometry and he quickly pointed out that he was able to do everything with a carpenter square that I had learned that year in engineering. I was lucky enough to have hunted quail, picked cotton, hung doors, and just laughed at his stories...Too many stories to list here in this small space, He loved his family and was always there for my Grandpa helping him on the farm. Uncle Bob was always there for my dad when he got sick and would comfort him throughout his difficult time. I was so proud to be with him when he was inducted into the Cullman Sports Hall of Fame.  Being without him leaves a big hole in my heart.  I know that he is in Heaven reuniting with Grandpa, Grandma, Granny, Dad, Aunt Lucy and AJ. My life because of him is immensely rich. I will miss him.
