Gladys Elizabeth Bailey

Gladys Elizabeth Tankersley Bailey of Crane Hill, AL passed away on December 24, 2015 just 4 days short of her 102nd birthday. She was a homemaker and former school teacher AND has long been recognized as the matriarch of the Tankersley family and the revered role model to many.

Gladys was preceeded in death by her husband of 58 years, William “Kert” Bailey.

She is survived by her children Betty Bailey Balch (Charles) of Crane Hill, AL, William Harold Bailey Sr. (Adonis) of Decatur, AL, Grandchildren Janice Marie Balch Richard (deceased), Elizabeth Ann Balch Ragland (David) of Huntsville, AL, Jill Alison Balch Coon (Murray) of Brooklyn, NY, William Harold Bailey, Jr. of Decatur, AL, Lori Anne Bailey Shrode (Tim) of Madison, AL, Andrea Marie Bailey Abernathy (Ken) of Wetumpka, AL, great grandchildren Nicole Duke Nichols (Patrick) of Spring Hill, TN, Elizabeth Marie Richard Starkey (Jeremy) of Rainsville, AL, Allyson Elizabeth Ragland of Huntsville, AL, Charles Dylan Coon of Brooklyn, NY, William James Bailey, Emma Grace Bailey, Riley Thomas Shrode, Madeline Elise Shrode of Madison, AL, Tyler Wayde Abernathy of Wetumpka, AL, great-great-grandchildren Hannah Grace Nichols of Spring Hill, TN, Jude Michael Starkey, and Olivia Marie Starkey of Rainsville, AL; brother George Edwin (Ned) Tankersley (Charlene - deceased) of Hanceville, AL; sisters, Catherine Tankersley Jewett (Richard) of Kissimee, FL and Jo Tankersley Morris (Dewayne) of Birmingham, AL; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Visitation for Gladys will be held at Moss Service Funeral Home on Monday, December 28, 2015 beginning at 12:30 p.m., funeral service will follow, beginning at 2:00pm at Moss. Pallbearers will be Herlin Callan, William Harold Bailey, Jr. Tim Shrode, Ken Abernathy, David Ragland, Murray Coon.
