

James Martin Freeman was a proud American hero, devoted father, loving grandfather, and loyal friend whose strength, kindness, and love for his family left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
James honorably served his country as a United States Marine during the Vietnam War, where he earned the Purple Heart for his bravery and sacrifice. He carried that same courage, resilience, and patriotism throughout his life and was deeply proud of both his service and his country.
To know James was to know a man who never met a stranger. He was a dependable friend, a loving father, and someone whose presence brought comfort and laughter to those around him. He treasured time spent with his family, fishing, and Alabama football.
Above all else, James loved his family deeply. His greatest joy came from the people he loved and the memories they shared together.
He also cherished the relationships he shared with his many extended family members and friends throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Talmadge Freeman and Lucy Bagwell Sylvest; his stepmother, Ethel Freeman; and his sisters, Mary Freeman and Joyce Sunday.
James is survived by his children, James Michael Freeman, Melissa Freeman, and Casey Cooper; the mother of his children, Chrissy Freeman; his brother, Jimmy Freeman; his beloved grandchildren, Cole Freeman and Braxton Freeman; and a host of nieces and nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.
Visitation will be held at Moss-Service Funeral Home, 1901 2nd Ave North West, Cullman, AL 35055, on June 2, 2026, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
A Celebration of Life Graveside Service will be held at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 2245 Co Rd 1242, Vinemont, AL 35179, on June 3, 2026, from 2:00 pm.
James Martin Freeman will be remembered for his bravery, his unwavering love for his family, his generous heart, and the legacy of strength and honor he leaves behind.
His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
