
Graveside Services for Mrs. Linda Kathryn Whatley Smothers age 63 of Cullman will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, October 4, 2013 at the Sardis Baptist Church Cemetery, with Rev. Mackey Watts officiating.

Linda was born in Cullman on March 28, 1950 to the late Freeman Edward & Doris Virginia Vincent Whatley. She passed away on Tuesday, October 1, 2013 at Cullman Regional Medical Center. Mrs. Smothers was raised in Cullman, but lived in Jones Chapel, she started working at the age of 16. Linda had waitressed at the “Busy Bee Café”, the old old Jacks on Hwy 31, the slaughter house, and was even a truck driver for a time. She sat with the elderly at night, was a dietician at Cullman Regional and the Dietary Supervisor at Woodland Hospital, and finally at Pressac.
Mrs. Smothers was known for being very straight forward, always shared her opinions vocally, whether you liked it or not, she made an impression you would not forget. She battled bone cancer and for the last few years, has struggled with other health issues. And she loved the season of Fall, and many animals.
She is preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Ray Whatley.
Survivors include her Husband – Phillip Smothers; one Daughter – Lisa Darnell (David) Pigg of Addison; three 3 – Grandsons – Zachary (Kayla) Darnell of Trinity, AL; Patrick Darnell of Addison and Jacob Pigg of Addison; one Sister – Deborah Bailey of Guntersville and one Brother – Larry Whatley of Athens; and a Host of Cousins, Nieces & Nephews.
The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home on Friday, October 4, 2013 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Zachary Darnell, Jacob Pigg, David Pigg, Matthew Smothers, Kolton Denson, Lester Abbot, Wayne Rice and Baretta Hasting.
