She was born April 4, 1935 in Lowell, MA to parents Marion E. Downs and Robert C. Snow. During childhood she was, due to the difficulties of the depression and WWII, raised by her loving single mother, brother George, and Aunt and Uncle Helen and Russell Wells in Plattsburgh, NY. Eventually Margaret and her mother moved to Miami, FL.
Margaret was 17 when her mother passed on, and following this Margaret was adopted into the loving family of James and Wilma Whitaker of Op-locka, FL, where she lived with brothers Jimmy and Johnny, and sisters Mary Anne, Kathy and Cindy. It was in Opa-locka she met Marine Sgt. James L. Nix, who was stationed at Marine Corps Air Station Miami, after his service in Korea. They fell in love and married on January 23rd, 1954.
Margaret was an amazing woman who made friends wherever she went. She lived a full and meaningful life. Her purposes in life included being a homemaker where she created and maintained a beautiful home and yard, supporting her church, being of service to others and volunteering her time, especially to assist in teaching Kindergarteners to read. Most of all she excelled at nurturing and loving her family. She worked as an overseas telephone operator dealing with Caribbean and Central American communications, a retail bookkeeper, and a pharmacy assistant, always balancing her time between family income and family needs.
Margaret is survived by her loving children Todd and Wendy; sisters Cindy, Kathy and Mary Anne; nieces Peggy, Susie, Tammy, Carol, Sandy, Jami, Tricia, Ginger, Donna ,and Beth Ann, and nephews George, Chip, Earl, Brian, and John.
