Mrs. Hassell passed away Tuesday, July 7, at Cullman Regional Medical Center. She was born November 1, 1938, in Topeka, Kansas, to Edward and Wilma Pauline Gibson Perley. She grew up in the Midwest in both Wichita and Kansas City. She later moved to Birmingham, where she graduated from Ramsey High School and met her husband, Harvey Lee Hassell. Her remaining years were spent in Cullman County both in Holly Pond and Cullman. While in Cullman she served on the Draft Board, co-owned the dress shop, Designer Hang-Ups, and worked in the gift shop, Scrapbooks Plus. After retiring, she served on the boards of Peoples Bank and Brooke’s Place and enjoyed studying art and painting. She also volunteered at her church, St. John’s Evangelical Protestant.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Harvey Lee Hassell; and her brother, Ed Perley.
Prue was a unique caring individual who will be greatly missed by her relatives and many, many dear friends.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Little Lambs School at St. John’s.
