Walter J. “Buddy” Herron Jr., 85, of Crane Hill departed this life on Sunday, June 21, 2015. He leaves to cherish his memory, a son, William A. Herron (Sandra); grandchildren, Jason D. Herron, Christine H. Crouch (Tracy), Anthony Cole Herron (Amy); great-grandchildren, Harper Crouch, Dennis Crouch; brothers, Jerry E. Herron (Jim), Larry R. Herron (Gloria), Douglas W. Herron; sisters, Norma J. Smith (Bob), and Glenda G. Herron.
Buddy was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Faye Herron; and a son, Dennis J. Herron (Martha).
Buddy retired from the Birmingham Police Department after 31 years of service with the rank of sergeant detective. Together, Buddy and Norma moved to Crane Hill on Smith Lake, where they loved to entertain family and friends. Buddy was a charter member of Smith Lake Baptist Church.
Visitation will be at Moss Service Funeral Home in Cullman from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, June 24, with funeral following at 1 p.m., Timothy Davis officiating, with burial in Bethany Baptist Church in Crane Hill.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Smith Lake Baptist Church Building Fund.
