Agnes Alvertter Smith, daughter of Charles F. Thorpe and Artha B. Green, passed away December 24, 2020 in Culpeper, Virginia. Born October 5, 1933 in Saxe, Virginia, her family eventually moved to Moorestown, New Jersey where she graduated from Moorestown High School in 1952; worked for Bell Telephone in Camden, NJ before marrying and starting a family. Later in life, she worked for American Honda in their zone office in Mt. Laurel, NJ.
She moved to The Culpeper in the fall of 2017, devoted her life to being a loving daughter, mother, grandmother, sister and friend; was a devout Christian and loved the Lord. She was never afraid to share her faith; attending the ladies bible study at Immanuel Baptist Church in Maple Shade, NJ for many years.
Among her survivors are her sister, Annie Dora Gillis and her children Janice R. Gage (Phillip) and John W. Smith, grandchildren; Ronnie P. Boogaard (Kelly), Lauren C. Smith, Amanda L. Gage and two great-grandchildren, Landon J. Boogaard and Kendall J. Boogaard. Agnes will be lovingly missed by her brother and sister-in-law Jim and Nancy Smith; nieces Gail Post and Lisa Smith; nephews, Bill Hess, David Smith and Steven Smith, along with her cousin Fay Cilurso and her family.
Her brothers Jake R. Thorpe and Charles Willard Thorpe, as well as her brother-in-law Nelson Gillis, her nephew Glenn Gillis and her brother and sister-in law Marty and Janet Hess, predeceased her.
At the convenience of the family, all services will be private at Fairfax Memorial Park in Fairfax, VA Tuesday, January 5, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. A Celebration of Aggie’s life will held in New Jersey at a later date.
